Mi visita a la ciudad de San Antonio, Texas, una ciudad que realmente me sorprendió por su historia y a su vez por su influencia latina, comenzó con la sensación de pasear por un núcleo urbano moderno que conserva su riqueza cultural. En el centro se puede visitar el Alamo (entrada a partir de las 9 h aproximadamente): aquí ocurrió la famosa batalla de 1836 en la que texanos y voluntarios defendieron la misión ante el ejército mexicano.

El siguiente punto destacado es el San Antonio River Walk: un paseo fluvial donde se navega en barquitas o catamaranes entre canales en los que se refleja arquitectura histórica y moderna. A su lado hay restaurantes y cafeterías en estilo español-tejano, puentecitos que cruzan los canales, edificios con jardines interiores, vegetación a ambos lados del agua y hasta un Biergarten —por ejemplo, la cervecería Hofbräuhaus tiene su local frente al canal.

Para culminar, visité la Tower of the Americas (739 E Cesar E. Chavez Blvd, San Antonio, TX 78205) para tener una vista panorámica de toda la ciudad; está muy próxima al River Walk y se puede acceder todo a pie desde el centro sin necesidad de auto. Justo al lado hay un pequeño centro comercial que conecta con los canales: tiendas, jóvenes haciendo tirolesa y juegos infantiles, además de restaurantes y cafés típicos de toda Estados Unidos.

Me fui con la certeza de que San Antonio logra armonizar lo moderno con lo histórico, lo latino con lo anglosajón, en un ambiente caminable, lleno de sabor y de rincones para descubrir.

My visit to the city of San Antonio, Texas, a city that truly surprised me with its history and its strong Latin influence, began with the feeling of walking through a modern urban center rich in culture. In downtown you can visit the Alamo (entry opens around 9 a.m.): this is the famous 1836 battle where Texan volunteers defended the mission against the Mexican army.

Next highlight is the San Antonio River Walk: a riverside stroll where you can ride small boats or catamarans through channels reflecting both historic and modern architecture. Alongside are restaurants and cafés in a Spanish-Texan style, little bridges crossing the water, buildings with indoor gardens, vegetation flanking the canals and even a Biergarten—for example the Munich brewery Hofbräuhaus has a spot right on the canal.

To wrap up, I visited the Tower of the Americas (739 E Cesar E. Chavez Blvd, San Antonio, TX 78205) for a panoramic view of the whole city; it’s very close to the River Walk and you can reach it all on foot from downtown without a car. Right beside is a small shopping area connected to the canals: shops, zip-lines and kids’ playgrounds, plus restaurants and cafés typical of the U.S.

I left convinced that San Antonio manages to blend the modern with the historic, the Latin with the Anglo, in a walkable environment full of flavor and hidden corners waiting to be discovered.

Mein Besuch in der Stadt San Antonio, Texas—einer Stadt, die mich wirklich durch ihre Geschichte und zugleich durch ihre lateinamerikanische Prägung überrascht hat—begann mit dem Eindruck eines modernen Stadtzentrums voller Kultur. Im Herzen der Stadt kann man das Alamo besuchen (Einlass etwa ab 9 Uhr): Hier fand 1836 die berühmte Schlacht statt, bei der texanische Freiwillige die Mission gegen die mexikanische Armee verteidigten.

Als nächstes Highlight kam der River Walk von San Antonio: ein Spaziergang entlang von Kanälen, auf denen man mit kleinen Booten oder Katamaranen zwischen historischer und moderner Architektur fährt. Rechts und links befinden sich Restaurants und Cafés im spanisch-texanischen Stil, kleine Brücken über die Kanäle, Gebäude mit Innen­gärten, Vegetation entlang des Wassers und sogar ein Biergarten—z. B. hat die Brauerei Hofbräuhaus eine Niederlassung direkt am Kanal.

Zum Abschluss besuchte ich den Tower of the Americas (739 E Cesar E. Chavez Blvd, San Antonio, TX 78205) mit einer Panorama­aus­sicht über die ganze Stadt; er liegt ganz in der Nähe des River Walk und ist bequem zu Fuß vom Zentrum aus erreichbar, ohne Auto. Direkt daneben gibt es außerdem ein kleines Shopping­Center mit Zugang zu den Kanälen: Läden, eine Seilbahn bzw. Zip-Line und Spielmöglichkeiten für Kinder, sowie Restaurants und Cafés, wie man sie in den USA kennt.

Ich ging mit der Gewissheit, dass San Antonio es schafft, Modernes mit Historischem, Lateinisches mit Anglosächsischem zu verbinden—in einer fußläufigen Umgebung voller Geschmack und versteckter Entdeckungen.
